PRIDEFEST 2013 BOAT PARADE

On August 10, 2013, Hampton Roads Pride will be hosting “Out in the Park” at Norfolk's Town Point Park.  Known for a wide variety of music, shows, and pageantry, the event will again feature the Pride Boat Parade.

Town Point Park, nestled on the riverbanks of the Elizabeth River, provides a unique setting for boaters to be part of this event.  This is the only Pride Boat Parade in the country. said Sarah M, parade committee member.  Town Point Park can host approximately 30 boats alongside its docks and is the perfect spot to be part of the festivities.

The plan is for registered Parade participants to rendezvous just west of the USS Wisconsin in the waters outside of The Hague at noon, and then proceed as a group to the docks at Town Point Park.

Whether the flotilla can officially parade alongside the seawall at Town Point Park, or whether participants rendezvous at the docking destination, the event will be an entertaining display of Pride support.   There will be many award categories, both humorous and Pride themed.   “We want to maximize parade participation, recognize financial donors and create a party extraordinaire atmosphere on the docks.” said Tony B, a parade committee member.

A notable commentator will announce the Pride Boat Parade participants, decoration themes, and provide organizational sponsored boat information.  Judging will follow and an awards ceremony will occur during the park activities.  This event will provide a unique and distinctive aspect of this, and future “Out in the Park” events.
