Below is our 2023 Hampton Roads Pride Scholarship Recipient. We are proud of them and all of our applicants and wish them all the best as they pursue their dreams.

Icarus Landaker
From Virginia Beach, Virginia: Attending William & Mary.
Sharpe Scholar to double major in English and Environmental Engineering.
“Icarus Landaker is a graduate of the IB program at Princess Anne High School who identifies as nonbinary. They will be attending William & Mary as a Sharpe Scholar to double major in English and Environmental Engineering. They enjoy crafts and picking up new hobbies every month with the newest one being crocheting. They also love reading and writing poetry, short stories, novels, and any other form of literature.”

Cassidy Sandoval
From North Carolina, now resides in Hampton Roads, Virginia: Attending Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Fifth Year PHD student.
“Cassidy Sandoval is a fifth year PhD student in the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical
Psychology. She was born and raised in North Carolina and moved to Hampton Roads in 2019 to
pursue her doctoral studies. Cassidy earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2016 from
the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at
Appalachian State University. She is expected to graduate with her PhD in Clinical Psychology
in August 2024. As a graduate student, Cassidy conducts research on women’s health. Her
program of research has a large emphasis on sexual minority women’s health, and she has
collaborated on several research projects examining alcohol use and intimate partner violence,
body dissatisfaction and relationship factors, and relationship functioning and disordered eating
in same-sex female couples. Cassidy is pursuing a career in academia where she can constantly
fuel her passion for education as a lifelong learner and integrate her personal value of service to
others through clinical work, research, and teaching.”
